Mechanical & electrical
Electrical
The trade where the consequences of cutting corners are not aesthetic. It is also the one most often quietly done by a general contractor's crew rather than a licensed contractor, which is both illegal and, at resale, expensive.
Licensed work
ECRA/ESA Licensed Electrical Contractor
In Ontario, electrical work for hire must be performed by a Licensed Electrical Contractor holding an ECRA/ESA licence number, and most work requires a notification of work filed with the Electrical Safety Authority. The number is public and verifiable — ask for it, then check it. Work done without notification has no certificate of inspection, and that gap surfaces at closing, at insurance renewal, and after a fire.
